You've Got a Message! 3.0 | Past Tenses

You've Got a Message | Past Tenses is a creative grammar activity designed to help A2–B1 learners practise past simple through storytelling. Students read short message prompts that ask what happened and then craft their own replies, making the grammar meaningful and communicative.

How to Use

1. Show students the message prompts from their “friend.”
2. Ask them to read each message carefully.
3. Students make up a story to reply, using past tenses to explain what happened.
4. Encourage them to expand their answers with details and creativity.
5. Share and compare stories as a class or in pairs for extra speaking practice.
