This or That? | Warm-Up

This or That? | Warm-Up is a fun and interactive activity for A1–B1 learners. Students choose between two options on different topics like summer, weekend, travelling, shopping, and food, sparking conversation and practising speaking fluency.

How to Use

1. Present the options for each topic to the students.
   • Example topics:
     • Summer: Beach 🏖 or Mountains 🏔?
     • Weekend: Relaxing at home 🛋 or Going out 🌆?
     • Travelling: City trip 🏙 or Nature trip 🌲?
     • Shopping: Online 🛒 or In-store 🏬?
     • Food: Pizza 🍕 or Pasta 🍝?
2. Ask students to choose one option and explain their choice using phrases like:
   • I prefer this because…
   • That would be better for me because…
3. Encourage discussion by pairing students to ask and answer each other's choices.
4. Rotate topics to cover all areas and promote speaking fluency.
5. Use this activity as a conversation starter to practice vocabulary, preferences, and giving reasons in English.
