On a $100 Budget is a fun, interactive warm-up activity for A1–B2 learners that combines decision-making, vocabulary, and budgeting skills. Students explore different topics such as weekend plans, staycations, summer activities, self-care, and vacations, while practising English in a meaningful, real-life context.
How to Use
- Present the activity to students with the list of items or activities for each topic.
- Explain the budget constraint: they have $100 to spend on the chosen items.
- Students choose the activities or things they need while making sure the total does not exceed $100.
- Encourage discussion by asking:
- Why did you choose this item?
- How would you prioritize your spending?
- Use individually, in pairs, or small groups to promote negotiation and conversation skills.
- Optionally, compare choices as a class to discuss preferences and vocabulary related to daily routines, travel, and leisure.
