A2 B1 General Passive Voice

Breaking News! | Past Passive Voice is an engaging grammar activity for A2–B1 learners that allows students to feel like TV anchors while practising the past passive voice. Each slide presents a news story and prompts students to form sentences in the past passive, helping them gain confidence in both grammar and speaking.

How to Use

  1. Display each slide with a news item to the students.
  2. Provide the prompts included on the slide to guide students in forming past passive sentences.
    • Example: The rocket / launch / yesterday → The rocket was launched yesterday.
  3. Encourage students to speak their sentences aloud, practising pronunciation and sentence structure.
  4. Extension Activity: Ask students to improvise a short 10-second news story using the past passive.
    • Example: The rocket was launched yesterday. It was watched by millions of people!
  5. Use the activity as a pair, group, or whole-class exercise, and provide feedback on grammar and fluency.
