Advice Corner | Gerund & Infinitive

Advice Corner | Gerund & Infinitive is a structured speaking activity that helps B1–B2 students practise giving advice while revising common verb patterns with gerunds and infinitives. Students react to short, relatable problem situations and formulate advice using specific target verbs, balancing accuracy with natural spoken fluency.

How to use

1. Show one slide at a time. Each slide presents a short problem situation.
2. Students read the situation and respond with advice, using the target verbs provided on the slide.
3. Sentence starters and verbs guide students to use the correct gerund or infinitive form.
4. Students can speak:
   • individually (quick response),
   • in pairs (give and react to advice),
   • or in small groups (compare suggestions).
5. Out of the 15 slides:
   • 10 slides include speaking prompts and sentence starters to support production.
   • 5 slides do not include prompts, encouraging freer speaking and more independent use of the grammar.
6. Encourage follow-up questions or alternative advice to extend discussion and challenge stronger students.
